MEET US
Les Burstein, DDS, is a 1978 honors
graduate of the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral
Surgery in the City of New York. He received his Certificate in
Periodontology from Columbia in 1980 and was a member of the
Columbia faculty
in the Department of Periodontics. In practice for 18 years in
New York City, Dr. Burstein relocated his cosmetic dental implant and
periodontal practice to Great Neck in 1996.
A dental researcher and published author of research articles in the dental field, Dr. Burstein worked his way through the Columbia dental school graduating with honors in Periodontics. While a student he presented his research papers at national meetings of the American Association for Dental Research in 1975 and 1977.
A Past President and board member of the Student Clinicians of the American Dental Association, SCADA, Dr. Burstein has served organized dentistry promoting dental excellence in research and teaching through the SCADA organization that was started in 1959. As a freshman student at Columbia in 1975 and again in 1977, he won the student research presentation program at Columbia and represented his school at the ADA meetings those years. SCADA awarded him a scholarship for his graduate specialty training program at Columbia.
Dr. Burstein sponsors a private
accredited continuing education program for his colleagues. He
has sponsored educational programs covering dental
implants, periodontal treatment and general dentistry for his
referring dentists
since 1992 speaking personally several
times each year.
Continuing education is extremely
important in our dynamic field. Dental implant technology changes
rapidly as is demonstrated by the fact that we no longer have to
wait six months to put a crown on an implant and can do this the
same day in appropriate cases. Dr. Burstein continues to participate
in courses on dental implant treatment and related dental therapies
on a regular basis.
Dr. Burstein has been recognized as a Dental hero, a leader in implant dentistry by the Dental1.Org group. You can read the interview here: http://www.dental1.org/hero/dentalhero.cfm/13/1
Our Fine Staff
The first person that a patient meets
in our office is our wonderful office manager, JoAnn. She
is upbeat, energetic and assists our patients in scheduling
appointments. JoAnn prepares papers for submission to
insurance carriers for those patients that have dental coverage, and
she tries to accommodate everyone's individual needs. JoAnn is
married to Les Burstein, and they have two adult sons, Brian and
David.
Our Registered Dental Hygienist of
over 30 years is Michelle Bernstein. She is also
a graduate of Columbia University.
Our patients develop a personal
relationship with our great staff, and visiting the office for cosmetic
dental implant or periodontal treatment becomes a social as well as
a therapeutic session. You never have to worry that you will be
treated by a stranger with a staff that is continuously changing. We
strive to provide excellence in treatment for you.
Dr. Burstein invites students to
participate in an intern program during the academic year.
Students have come from the Great Neck
South High School and the North
Shore Hebrew Academy. They observe the operation of a surgical
dental specialty practice. Some of these students aspire to become
healthcare providers.
Our New Office
The new
Great Neck office was constructed in 2004 with window views in every
operating room. The suite provides a
calming feeling for our patients with
soft classical music. A private lavatory for our patients is located
within the reception area where complimentary drinks are also
available. You will see that each operating room is prepared with
plastic barrier protection offering the cleanest and safest
environment for our patients. There are five sterilizing units to
process our instruments. If an instrument is not sterilizable, it is
disposable! Sterility and cleanliness are
paramount in our office.
